Top 10 Life Insurance Myths

Life insurance is not a simple product. Even term life policies have many elements that must be considered carefully in order to arrive at the proper type and amount of coverage. But the technical aspects of life insurance are far less difficult for most people to deal with than trying to get a handle on how much coverage they need and why. This article will briefly examine the top 10 misconceptions surrounding life insurance and the realities that they distort.

Myth #1: I'm Single and Don't Have Dependents, so I Don't Need Coverage
Even single persons need at least enough life insurance to cover the costs of personal debts, medical and funeral bills. If you are uninsured, you may leave a legacy of unpaid expenses for your family or executor to deal with. Plus, this can be a good way for low-income singles to leave a legacy to a favorite charity or other cause.

Myth #2: My Life Insurance Coverage Needs Only Be Twice My Annual Salary
The amount of life insurance each person needs depends on each person's specific situation. There are many factors to consider. In addition to medical and funeral bills, you may need to pay off debts such as your mortgage and provide for your family for several years. A cash flow analysis is usually necessary in order to determine the true amount of insurance that must be purchased - the days of computing life coverage based only on one's income-earning ability are long gone.

Myth #3: My Term Life Insurance Coverage at Work Is Sufficient
Maybe, maybe not. For a single person of modest means, employer-paid or provided term coverage may actually be enough. But if you have a spouse or other dependents, or know that you will need coverage upon your death to pay estate taxes, then additional coverage may be necessary if the term policy does not meet the needs of the policyholder.

Myth #4: The Cost of My Premiums Will Be Deductible
Afraid not, at least in most cases. The cost of personal life insurance is never deductible unless the policyholder is self-employed and the coverage is used as asset protection for the business owner. Then the premiums are deductible on the Schedule C of the Form 1040.

Myth #5: I Absolutely MUST Have Life Insurance at Any Cost
In many cases, this is probably true. However, people with sizable assets and no debt or dependents may be better off self-insuring. If you have medical and funeral costs covered, then life insurance coverage may be optional.

Myth #6: I Should ALWAYS Buy Term and Invest the Difference Not necessarily. There are distinct differences between term and permanent life insurance, and the cost of term life coverage can become prohibitively high in later years. Therefore, those who know for certain that they must be covered at death should consider permanent coverage. The total premium outlay for a more expensive permanent policy may be less than the ongoing premiums that could last for years longer with a less expensive term policy.

There is also the risk of non-insurability to consider, which could be disastrous for those who may have estate tax issues and need life insurance to pay them. But this risk can be avoided with permanent coverage, which becomes paid up after a certain amount of premium has been paid and then remains in force until death.

Myth #7: Variable Universal Life Policies Are Always Superior to Straight Universal Life Policies Over the Long Run Many universal policies pay competitive interest rates, and variable universal life (VUL) policies contain several layers of fees relating to both the insurance and securities elements present in the policy. Therefore, if the variable subaccounts within the policy do not perform well, then the variable policyholder may well see a lower cash value than someone with a straight universal life policy.

Poor market performance can even generate substantial cash calls inside variable policies that require additional premiums to be paid in order to keep the policy in force.

Myth #8: Only Breadwinners Need Life Insurance Coverage Nonsense. The cost of replacing the services formerly provided by a deceased homemaker can be higher than you think, and insuring against the loss of a homemaker may make more sense than one might think, especially when it comes to cleaning and daycare costs.

Myth #9: I Should Always Purchase the Return-of-Premium (ROP) Rider on Any Term PolicyThere are usually different levels of ROP riders available for policies that offer this feature. Many financial planners will tell you that this rider is not cost-effective and should be avoided. Whether you include this rider will depend on your risk tolerance and other possible investment objectives.

A cash flow analysis will reveal whether you could come out ahead by investing the additional amount of the rider elsewhere versus including it in the policy.

Myth #10: I'm Better off Investing My Money Than Buying Life Insurance of Any KindHogwash. Until you reach the breakeven point of asset accumulation, you need life coverage of some sort (barring the exception discussed in Myth No.5.) Once you amass $1 million of liquid assets, you can consider whether to discontinue (or at least reduce) your million-dollar policy. But you take a big chance when you depend solely on your investments in the early years of your life, especially if you have dependents. If you die without coverage for them, there may be no other means of provision after the depletion of your current assets.

The Bottom LineThese are just some of the more prevalent misunderstandings concerning life insurance that the public faces today. Therefore, there are many life insurance questions you should ask yourself. The key concept to understand is that you shouldn't leave life insurance out of your budget unless you have enough assets to cover expenses after you're gone. 10 OF THE BEST IPHONE APPS TO HAVE IF YOU GET STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR

elevatorstuckGetting stuck in an elevator is certainly not a pleasant experience by any stretch of the imagination. Time begins to pass slowly and minutes seem to stretch on forever, which only adds to the stress of the situation. The best thing you can do is keep yourself and everyone around you calm until you’re all able to exit the elevator. Having some handy tools as well as some forms of entertaining everyone will help in that regard. So get your iPhone kitted out with these 10 excellent apps, because you never know when you are going to need them.
  1. iHandy Torch Free – Being stuck in a stalled elevator with no power and no lights can truly feel like one of life’s worst case scenarios. The free iHandy Torch app uses your iPhone’s camera flash to produce a powerful flashlight with multiple light effect features. You can also activate the flashlight with a simple shake of your phone.
  2. Comics – Hopefully your ordeal in the elevator won’t last too long. However, if you are stuck there for a while, reading some great downloadable comics will help keep you calm. This is no second rate app, either. You can access content from such big names as Marvel, DC and Image comics, just to name a few. Best of all, the app and library of over 30,000 titles are completely free.
  3. Kindle – The Amazon Kindle app is another lifesaver if you ever find yourself stuck in an elevator. With over 900,000 titles available, including both purchasable and free books, the Kindle is a must have app for when you find yourself in a tight spot. The app itself is free from the iPhone store.
  4. Angry Birds – This is a game that just keeps on giving. Make sure to have Angry Birds Original, Seasons, Rio or Space downloaded to your iPhone when you’re in a pinch. The free versions of each game are packed full of levels and you can also upgrade for $0.99.
  5. iBook –Apple’s own eBook reader iBook syncs with your Apple ID for ease of access. The app beautifully renders text for easy reading in a number of different fonts and languages. The iBook-shelf is a convenient way to access all of your titles, right from your iPhone home-screen.
  6. MyMedia – Download Manager – Streaming video and other media is a great way to pass time; however, that won’t help you if your iPhone is unable to go online. That is why an app like MyMedia-Download Manager is invaluable. You can download unlimited media, such as videos, music, images and documents to your handset. MyMedia-Download Manager is free of charge from the iTunes store, which is pretty impressive for an app that handles pretty much any type of media format.
  7. Imagine Poker – This is a classic game, so you would imagine that there isn’t much more to say. However, the developers, Candymaker, have added a new twist to the game. You can enter tournaments against over 20 historical and fictional characters, including Abraham Lincoln, Genghis Khan and even the Cheshire Cat.
  8. Police Siren – Getting stuck in an elevator is no fun; especially if you discover that there is no alarm call. You could be there for hours, shouting for help before anyone hears you. This free app will help spare your voice. However, make sure that everyone covers their ears before you set it off.
  9. Wreck this App – A recurring theme in the reviews for this app is how well it works for stress relief. Being confined to a small space most definitely qualifies as stressful, so Wreck this App may be the best $4.99 you ever spend. The app is basically an interactive activity game that incorporates other areas of your iPhone. You can poke holes in your pictures, scribble out your contacts and much more.
  10. Animation Desk™ for iPhone – This app brings a very close approximation of a real animator’s workspace to your iPhone home-screen. Create your own simple animations from scratch or trace previously captured videos for use with the app. If you’re really good, you could become the hero of the day by keeping your other elevator detainees entertained until you are rescued. For only $2.99, the hours of potential entertainment this app provides are well worth the money spent.
When you’re stuck in an elevator, it’s best to keep in mind that you will eventually find your way out. Regardless of how hopeless the situation may feel while you’re being held captive, remembering that your sentence isn’t a permanent one can help to stave off panic until you’re able to leave.

Anti Aircraft Guns Work Against Aircraft...BUT Do Anticorruption Methods Work Against Corruption

Anti Corruption Campaigner Brian Pinkowski writes:

Working on USAID Anticorruption projects I have often found that anticorruption institutions need access to very simple materials that help explain what corruption is.  Something odd happens when people enter government around the world and they seem to shift from the idea that anticorruption is about preventing things that cause the degradation of society to thinking that anticorruption is primarily about investigations, arrests, prosecutions and jail. People will talk about corruption prevention on international
Investigation doesn't prevent the cows from being stolen. Brian Pinkowski
Investigation doesn’t prevent the cows from being stolen. Brian Pinkowski
development projects, but it seems to be pushed aside in favor of the sexier efforts to prosecute and convict criminals.  In other words, corruption prevention gets pushed aside in favor of basic law enforcement capacity building.
While the law enforcement skills are essential, they don’t really PREVENT much corruption.
This is also true within private corporations.
After having given the presentation over 200 times to public and private sectors audiences, I decided to create a few short videos to help anticorruption tools as they explain some of the more basic concepts in anticorruption.  The first video is 6 minutes and discusses application of the dictionary definition of the words “Corrupt” and “Corruption.”
Follow-up videos discuss application of the terms to individuals, groups and societies.
The videos can help where you have access to internet, but the material in the videos is basic enough to be communicated with a stick in the dirt (as I have done on more than one occasion).
I have the transcript in English and Arabic, and am having the material developed in other languages with the help of my colleagues.
Results have been quite good with sophisticated audiences such as prosecutors, and with people with weak literacy skills.  I welcome your use of the material.

This Secret Was Hidden Until Exposed By Derren Brown's Psychic Powers

Derren Brown produced a television special “Messiah” to demonstrate that people can be conned into believing anything.
The first port of call was Sedona, Arizona. According to Brown this is a place of beauty, tackiness and big business and twenty-five per cent of the residents in Sedona think they are psychic.
Brown hires the Creative Life Center to conduct his experiment and this gives the impression that the psychics participating in this experiment are actually part of the center, when in fact they are not.
The participants are a man who looks a little like Ram Dass, Abby Haydon and two other women, who are apparently psychics. Brown tells them that his name is Daniel Owen and he develop psychic abilities ten years earlier when hit by lightning.
Abby Haydon ran a newsletter, which at the time of writing has been discontinued. She is basically into anything that goes, although her expertise is supposedly in channeling, psychic readings, vortex tours, color healing, and sound healing. Abby has the motto: that if someone comes and asks her to do something she must be able to do it—but as far as I know, nobody has told her she has the power to rise from the dead and then fatally shot her.
Because Abby claims the ability to channel and is willing to participate in Brown’s experiment—she is already getting exposure in this article—she is the one who is going to draw the pictures in another room with which Darren is going to demonstrate his ability to read her mind or psychically pick up her thoughts.
Abby draws four pictures and Derren Brown, the brilliant man that he is, gets them nearly all correct; so impressively that Abby exclaims, ”I am going to be out of job.”
How does Derren Brown, the skeptic, the trickster delude these psychic marvels?
People are puzzled. I mean this guy is impressive. However, I am also a skeptic. I like truth. Don’t you? So I carefully perused the video to see what I could learn.
Derren uses autosuggestion.
The first pictures drawn by Abby were a Star of David and a shrub or tree. However, before Abby went into the adjoining room to draw the pictures there was a little banter and Derren was sowing seeds of people making life changing decisions, vivid images, I am going to get you to quote: “Draw a picture. All I say keep it. Do keep it relatively simple. Don’t make it too detailed. Messup. [sounds like Messiah] Step into it. Imagine it is vivid and real, and I will try and get these to write down whatever impressions I get. Focus on the picture. Step into it a little bit. Nice large and clear on one sheet of paper.”
Derren Brown then makes out he is trying to read Abby’s mind, but this is just a bit of illusory caper from the illusionist.  He claims he is picking up something that is abstract, religious and simple like a cross or a tree or maybe a shrub.  The psychics are impressed. He got the religious content right, and she did draw a shrub.  He was trying to implant the idea that it would be a cross that is made out of a tree and was covering his bases a little by including a shrub. Still the autosuggestion worked.
Just before Abby draws a sailboat on water, Derren calls out “…different images sail through your mind. Don’t go overboard on detail.”
The psychic who looks like a young Ram Dass claims to be a professional and a teacher who helps people develop their psychic gifts. He exclaims, “As a person who trains psychics I would have them watch that film and say this is how you do it.”
The reality is psychics are just gullible people fooling other gullible people. This lot did not even know they were being stooged at all; so much for their acclaimed abilities.

Mystery of Sex Transmutation

Don’t know about you, but I think there has to be something in the art of sex transmutation that most people are missing out on.

The Subliminal Libido
Napoleon Hill in 1937 declared in his book “Think and Grow Rich” that “the men of greatest achievement are men with highly developed sex natures; men who have learned the art of sex transmutation.”
Sigmund Freud believed that those who reached greatness in their achievements did so by diverting their libido into positive energy that was of a creative nature rather than being spent in the chase of gratifying their sexual instincts.
If you destroy the sex glands within an animal, you will see the animal lose much of its vitality. A bull becomes as docile as a cow after it has been neutered. It is not even interested in any action when a red flag is waved at it, and has no interest in the old moo any more.
Absolute Genius
The concentration of your libido into what you want to achieve is powerful in its results. Geniuses are those people who are able to excel beyond the best. Geniuses seem to go beyond the natural and enter into the realm of preternatural; a state of existence that exists between what we could describe as the natural realm and the supernatural realm. Geniuses do this because they are able to funnel their libido into a single purpose very quickly. Learn how to do this and you are on the path of greatness.
According to Napoleon Hill scientific discovery and research conducted over the last two thousand years have revealed: “The men who have accumulated great fortunes and achieved outstanding recognition in literature were motivated by the influence of a woman.”
It is often said that a man is made by the woman who supports him, or, as is often stated, “The woman makes the man.”
There is something about being in a harmonious relationship with a woman that enables a man to fulfill his inner desires. It is as if there is a double portion of libido being funneled into the same purpose—now you have to like that.
In a harmonious relationship stress levels are able to be controlled and this means the energy that goes into being spent in stressing out can now be used in the art of sex transmutation. This is transferring all that libido into a common purpose and being spurred onto greater heights.
Charismatic people have learnt the art of sex transmutation, whether they realize this or not. Sometimes people are considered gifted because they just seem to have something that most people do not possess. But this need not be so. Everybody has libido and learning how to focus your libidinal energy is what distinguishes the very successful from being merely successful and definitely the nearly successful.
Women’s Attraction
Amazingly, woman are attracted to the charismatic personality of a man who can focus in a sustained manner on his purpose. It may also be said that this is often the demise of many a man, once he realizes that he possesses something that more than one woman wants—this is known as the law of diminishing returns.
What seems to be a mystery is no longer a mystery to those who have come to understand that the transferring of libidinal energy is the mystery of sex transmutation that differentiates the winners from the also-rans and the stars from the wannabes.

Are You Too Dumb To Fail?

A man told me he was a Mensa and, silly me, I thought he was confessing to being a transsexual having her period.
A 55-year-old man I know claims he is a member of Mensa and has an IQ of 152. Somehow, this is supposed to make him an extraordinary individual who can command an income of at least $300K a year. He refuses to work for less. Consequently, he has no job and lives off government handouts; something he has been doing since he was 40yrs old. If anything, having such a high IQ appears to be an impediment in his ability to achieve anything in life.
To be honest, my IQ is not high, but then I am not sure if there is any value having a high IQ. From what I have been told, having a high IQ means that we have the ability to recall all sorts of facts and figures, participate in quiz shows and make money. However, the only person I know who claims to have a high IQ, doesn’t seem to be able to make any money from quiz shows. You would think he would be bright enough to apply, but then maybe his light bulb has blown and he can’t afford a new one.
Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich) reports that Henry Ford was taken to court to prove that he did not have a high IQ.  When the lawyer for the plaintiff attempted to demonstrate that Henry Ford was bereft of a high IQ, he did so by asking him general knowledge questions. Ford was wearied by the lawyer’s banal attempts to demonstrate that he himself was not a historian nor spent his day reading encyclopedias, and therefore did not have a high IQ. Henry Ford then demonstrated he was much more intelligent than the lawyer by effectively telling him and the court that if he needed to know answers to general knowledge, he would employ someone who specialized in reading books and regurgitating what they had read. I suppose, Henry thought if he did not have a high IQ, he could buy one somewhere.
History tells us that instead of being a pea-brain, Henry Ford excelled in providing tens of thousands of people with jobs—even lawyers.
What is the point of knowing things you do not need to know? If you are not going to be a librarian there is no need to learn the Dewey Decimal System of book classification, especially if you are going to spend your life on the beach playing volleyball or be a tennis player seeking to win the grand slam events.
We need to know what is important for us to get where we want to go or achieve our goals and purpose in life. It is one thing to be talking about what you can learn watching television quiz shows like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? It is another thing entirely, wanting to be a millionaire and setting realistic goals that will assist you in your quest. Too many people are in the wishful thinking category, daydreaming rather than taking action to achieve their current purpose.
Not everybody wants to be a millionaire. Some of us want to be billionaires. However, many of us (maybe even you) merely want to earn an income working from home, so we can spend more time with our partner, family and friends.  Too many people are caught up in the poverty trap and do not realize that the pursuit of money in itself can lead to impoverishment, the same as thinking we need to have an high IQ, even though we are unable to do anything worthwhile with our lives.
The most important factor in our lives has to be having a purpose for which to live and brighten up our day. Purposeful living means a quality lifestyle. What better way is there to enjoy a quality lifestyle other than knowing you do not have to be a slave to the system. Don’t laugh. You do not need a high IQ to begin your road to freedom. Anybody can blog and become better at blogging day by day. As I am finding, you can learn as you go.
If you desire to have fun and like to be free, begin your road to freedom here right NOW.
